Alcaidesa Links has established a reputation as one of Andalucia’s premier golf courses, and is located extremely close to the revered layouts at Valderrama, San Roque, Sotogrande, La Reserva and many more. With this grouping of terrific courses, the local area makes for a golf holiday of outstanding quality. Alcaidesa benefits from an amazing location right on the Mediterranean shores, affording spectacular views down the coastline towards the Rock of Gibraltar.
The Links is an 18 holes par 72 golf course that has a distinct seaside accent, which is understandable given that it was designed by the British duo of Peter Alliss and Clive Clark, and even features gorse bushes and heather. Imagine the joy of playing a Scottish-style links course, but instead of driving rain and wind you can be bathed in the Andalucian sunshine! Recent development work has improved the overall quality of the Alcaidesa Links, making it even more of a highlight of any golfing tour to the San Roque area.
The course has been awarded amongst the 20 best links courses on the European continent by Golf World magazine (2011)
Previously hosted: PGA Tours of Andalusia (1993, 1994), PGA Tour of Spain (1995), The Ryder Cup Junior Match (1997).

Red: 5006 meters (5,475 yards), SSS 71
Signature Hole: Hole 5, Par 5, 467 meters (511 yards), SI 11
The 5th hole on the links is a memorable one, providing the golfer with breathtaking views over the Mediterranean to Gibraltar, and stretching even as far as Morocco.
Alcaidesa proudly unveiled its second layout, the Heathland Course, in late 2007. This 18 hole course Par 72 was designed by Dave Thomas. Winding its way across the great slopes of the estate, the Heathland is the perfect foil for the Links; it is longer and more challenging for the low handicappers, demanding a good grasp of all the games facets, from accurate driving to a tight short game. In an area that already boasts a number of outstanding courses, the Heathland has squeezed in thanks to the high quality of its design, and makes your trip to Alcaidesa even more memorable.
Alcaidesa is famed for its views down the coastline towards the Rock of Gibraltar – remember your camera!

Signature Hole: Hole 14, Par 3, 185 metres (202 yards), SI 6
The par 3, 14th hole played from an elevated tee, deserves its status as signature hole for its variety of natural landscapes. These include fantastic views over the sea, as well as mountains and valley areas twisting throughout the fairway. This hole is a fantastic showcase of the wonderful surroundings which Dave Thomas was able to use to great effect when intertwining them throughout the course.
It may be a municipal golf course, but La Caňada is fortunate enough to have been designed by two of the game’s great architects. The two loops that make up the championship course were formulated respectively by Robert Trent Jones and Dave Thomas.
The two distinct nines offer a considerable challenge, but La Caňada is not so difficult that the spectacular views of the Mediterranean coast will be spoiled. Undulating fairways and fast, sloping greens are characteristic of the course which is bordered by banks of amazing indigenous trees.
Being designed for the passionate local golfers, La Caňada is a genuine test of golf with a no-frills attitude, but the pure test of golf attracts visitors back again and again.
The Costa Del Sol is a haven for world-class golf courses and Almenara Golf Club fits perfectly into this trend. The beautiful resort is located in the heart of Sotogrande, not too far away from Gibralter Airport. The golf club contains 27 stunning holes which are comprised 3 sets of nine: Los Lagos, Los Pinos and Alcornoques. The course is designed by legendary British golf course architect Dave Thomas. The glorious golf course winds its way through the rolling hills of Sotogrande which is one Spain’s most upmarket areas and the 18 holes that inhabit it are certainly a match. The course’s designer Dave Thomas is responsible for the creation of some of the world’s most revered golf courses and probably the most famous of all the 4 time Ryder Cup course, The Brabazon at the Belfry. Therefore, no matter what combination you wish to play any one of the 3 nines in, when in the area playing Almenara Golf Course is an unmissable opportunity.
Almenara is a fantastic resort course, providing a genuine challenge for highly skilled players, but Thomas’ considerate design and the multitude of tee boxes ensure that the average golfer will not be overwhelmed. The gently undulating fairways meander through the truly stunning landscape around the lakes, and are bordered by pine, cork and oak trees. Each fairway is wide allowing for a whole range of golfer’s to enjoy the course. The clubhouse provides the perfect setting for you to bask in the sun after a spectacular round of golf and with it being the focal point for all three courses you are never too far away from a cold beer and a place to drink it. Set in the higher area of Sotogrande, the course is less than 500 metres from the legendary Valderrama golf course, host of the Ryder Cup and Volvo Masters.
In the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja lies the San Roque Club, whose two outstanding championship golf courses are the reason behind its continued position within the elite of Andalucian golfing resorts.
In 2003 the San Roque Club welcomed its second championship layout, following design and construction work by the esteemed American architect, Perry Dye. The New Course measures a colossal 7,246 yards from the tips, and although it differs greatly in style to the Old, it presents an equally formidable challenge.
With unparalleled views over the Guadalquiton River and the amazing azure of the Mediterranean, the New is an unforgettable experience, and was recently rewarded with the 2006 Spanish Open. More than 100 strategically positioned bunkers guard the impeccable fairways and greens, and while the cork tree-lined targets are more forgiving than the Old, visiting golfers will require sound strategy and course management to score well.
With an internationally renowned golf academy and two of the region’s finest championship course, visiting the San Roque Club is an essential component of any good golfing holiday in Southern Spain.
