Costa Ballena’s golf course is the focal point of the resort’s massive development, and since its inception in 1997 has established itself among the best in Andalucia.
The layout was designed by Ryder Cup star, Jose María Olazabal, and has become a regular choice for top national and international amateur events, in addition to being selected to host a European Tour qualifying event. The championship course is comprised from the 27 holes conceived by Olazabal, and at its full length will measure 6,601 yards. Some holes run alongside the spectacular Atlantic coastline, while further inland the course traverses the lush parkland, and the interesting variation makes Costa Ballena a very satisfying round.
Costa Ballena also has an entertaining par-3 course; the holes measure up to 200 yards and more, showing that it is no push-over!
The complex has a fantastic practice facility and driving range, while the resort is also home to a Scott Cranfield golf academy.
Located very near the centre of Jerez, Sherry Golf has emerged recently as a prominent destination for leading professional and amateur events, while also remaining ideal for golfing tourists.
The par-72 championship and the short par-3 course were both designed by Stirling and Martin of the Global Golf Company. The fairways are wide, and the greens are large and undulating, but with the course measuring 7,185 yards from the back tees, powerful striking is required to score well. This is not to say that Sherry will overwhelm the average player; as is the case with any good new resort course, there is a good variety of tees, with one to suit all visitors.
The championship course is complemented by the entertaining short course and a state-of-the-art tuition and practice academy, underlining the resort’s outstanding quality. A golfing holiday in the Jerez region of Cadiz should certainly include a visist to Sherry Golf.
Sherry has recently been chosen to host full amateur international matches and also a European Tour qualifying event.
La Estancia is within a couple of miles of both the Melia hotel and the famous la Barrosa beach, and is a very enjoyable resort course. Designed by Dutchman Alan Rijks, the course measures 6,843 yards from the championship markers, but the range of tees will ensure that all abilities are catered for.
The elevated greens are protected by a network of lakes and streams that have been strategically worked into the layout, where accuracy is certainly the most valuable asset. The course is also home to an excellent grass driving range, while the new clubhouse is scheduled for completion in 2007.
Montenmedio Golf and Country Club provides a fascinating glimpse of traditional Spain, and the regal clubhouse and world famous equestrian complex add to the sense of occasion when visiting this impressive sporting estate situated between Cadiz and Gibraltar.
Ringed by majestic old trees, Montemedio’s picturesque 18-hole, par-72 course is 6,520-yards long, covering gently rolling terrain and is widely rated as one of the finest in Spain.
The superb quality of its tees and greens complement the natural surroundings beautifully, which along with a great climate, leafy groves, beautiful Mediterranean pines, wild olive trees – and not a tourist development in sight – make for a memorable golfing experience.
In recent years, the bunkers have been re-positioned and the teeing areas have been developed to improve the course’s aesthetics and playability. The signature hole is the tough par-5 11th, with a narrow fairway, out of bounds down the left hand side, a pond to avoid and an uphill finish to a small sloping green.
Not surprisingly, Montenmedio Golf and Country Club enjoys an excellent reputation amongst advanced players but beginners are also welcome here, courtesy of the well established golf school and the course’s multiple teeing areas.
The huge equestrian centre, capable of housing thousands of horses, is worth a visit, and there is a country trail area where visitors are taken by pony-trap to see the local wildlife, including deer and boar.

Designed by legendary Spanish golfer Manuel Pinero, the 9 time European tour winner and Ryder Cup victor has created a course that can be enjoyed by all. The short nature of the par 4s are tempting for the longer hitters but the advice is to lay up as the greens are often guarded by water meaning the big booming drive is not always the best option.
Clubhouse / Golf Facilities

The Terrace Bar is only a short distance from the 1st and 18th hole enabling players to enjoy the splendid view of the first hole whilst sipping on a cocktail.
